Tide Wheelchair Basketball Cruises in Season Opener

The Alabama Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team opened their season last weekend with three games at home. They had a few nerves to get out in the Friday night opener, which they dropped to the Sheperd Center Stealers 51-63. They entered Saturday’s games with a renewed energy and the confidence necessary to pick up two wins. The first match-up was with the Memphis Rolling Grizzlies. Bama had two double-digit scoring streaks and won 73-54. Their third and final game of the weekend was against the local ABC Black Warriors. The two teams battled for 40 minutes, ending with a favorable result for the Tide, 68-62.

The Alabama Women had their first tournament of the season this past weekend. In the first game of the ABC Medical Tipoff, the Tide faced Memphis. Alabama had some first game jitters in the first half and fell behind early, down by as many as thirteen. The girls found their groove in the second half and completed the big comeback win, with a thrilling 48-46 victory. In game number two for the women, they faced an extremely tough Shepherd team. The women came out with a lot of energy and grit from the opening whistle. They kept the game close early on, but Shepherd was able to pull away late, Shepherd 64, Alabama 44. In the final game of the weekend for the Alabama women, they played the local ABC team. ABC kept the game tight for the first half, but Alabama proved to be too much in the second half, getting the big 61-43 win. A great start to the season for the ladies going 2-1. You can catch the Crimson Tide back in action at home on November 1st. Roll Tide!
