Strong Showing for Tide in Alabama Open

TUSCALOOSA, AL – The 2016 Alabama Open wrapped up Sunday, and left Alabama with several victories. On Friday, Alabama went 5-3 in Open Wheelchair Tennis Tournament. Lauren Hopps, Karolina Lingyte, Caitlin McDermott and Ryan Hynes all won singles.

Maude Jaques, graduate student, advanced to the semi-final round before falling to teammate Karolina Lingtye. The two competed Sunday in the Doubles finals, and Lingtye went on to the Finals in both Women’s Doubles and Singles, this being her first tournament on the court since May 2015. Hopps advanced on to win Women’s Doubles alongside teammate Sarah Casteel with Round Robin scores of
6-4:6-4 and 7-6(5); 6-1 with a 5 point tie breaker in the first set.

Sean Burns advanced to the Men’s C Singles after two round victories to compete against fellow teammate Ryan Hynes, who came out with the victory. The final score was 6-0;6-0 out of three games.

“I’m extremely pleased with the match play I’ve seen so far this tournament. With having only 10 days of practice before our first home event, the players really performed well.” Said Head Tennis Coach Evan Enquist. “This is just the kick off to our 4 tournament Fall season. I can’t wait to see the progress the players will make over the season.”
