Haneke-Hopps Takes First Career ITF Singles Title!

Hanover Park, IL – The Tide traveled to the Midwest this past weekend to the Chicago Wheelchair Tennis Classic!

Alabama started strong going 7-2 on Friday and Saturday! Maude Jacques and Lauren Haneke-Hopps both won their semi-final rounds in straight sets to earn an all bama final in the Women’s Open! After a second round win, the doubles duo Jacques and Haneke-Hopps will headed to the doubles giving them a chance to maintain the doubles champion title earned in 2016.

After a first round loss, Freshman Alex Saporito won 2 straight singles matches today him the Men’s B Consolation semifinals. After rebounding from a first round loss in doubles, Saporito with partner Jeremy Boyd won the Men’s B Consolation Doubles title! Roll Tide!

On Sunday, the Tide battled it out in the Women’s Open Final. After a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(7-4) battle, Haneke-Hopps claims her first ITF Futures Singles Title! Roll Tide! Jacques and Haneke-Hopps took 2nd in the Women’s Open Doubles losing a close match at 3-6, 4-6. Saporito lost a close Men’s B consolation final match 6-4, 3-6, (7-10). Saporito made the Tide proud by winning the tournament sportsmanship award! Roll Tide!

The Tide will wrap up their Fall Season at the USTA Southern Team Wheelchair Tennis Championships on Nov 11th!
