Tuscon, AZ – The Crimson Tide Wheelchair Tennis Team started the season strong in the Arizona Open ITF 2. The team had tough match-ups in the first round of the open draw against top players in the world in singles. Jacques started the day with a tough loss to world ranked 10th Montjane. Hopps played hard but came up short against Verfuerth ranked 37th in the world. Baron finished the day facing 4th world ranked Van Koot. Baron was defeated in straight sets. Jacques and Hopps joined to play Women’s Open doubles losing to world class pair Shuker and Mathewson world ranked 8th and 13th respectively. Baron paired with Verfuerth to conquer the first round of Women’s Open doubles with a victory. Hopps started consolation with a very close first set losing 5-7, and then went on to lose the second set 0-6. Jacques played in a hard consolation draw match losing 3-6,3-6. Baron went on to win 3 straight singles matches dominating the consolation draw competition and winning the consolation finals against world ranked 31st Takamuro. ROLL TIDE! Baron and her doubles partner suffered a loss to a familiar opponent, Shuker and Mathewson. The Crimson Tide Wheelchair Tennis Team fought exceptionally against great competition. They will have 2 days to rest then will continue to battle in Baton Rouge, LA in the Cajun Classic ITF 1. ROLL TIDE!
