Tide Men Roll in Texas

This weekend Alabama Wheelchair Basketball traveled to Arlington Texas. The Bama men had an extremely tough schedule for the weekend. The men were playing the preseason number one and number two seeded teams twice, the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and the University of Texas Arlington.
The first game on Friday morning was against Whitewater. The boys came out fast and shooting extremely well. The boys took a double digit lead into halftime. The game was far from over, as Whitewater came charging back in the second half. However, Bama proved to be too much as they won this high-scoring ball game 81-76.
The last game on Friday night faced Alabama against the defending national champs and the home team, Texas Arlington. In contrast to the first game of the day, this game was all about the defense. Both teams were battling throughout, and baskets were at a premium. Alabama was able to pull out another victory with some timely makes; Alabama 46, UTA 37.
Bama opened up on Saturday with an early morning rematch with Wisconsin Whitewater. Alabama got off to a sluggish start, going behind early. They entered the second half trailing by six. Alabama stringed together some great defensive possessions and finally got the offense flowing. The men showed great grit, fighting through controversy to complete the comeback, with a final score of 61-58.
Alabama’s final game of the weekend was another matchup with Texas Arlington. At the beginning of the game both teams were going back and forth. This looked like another defensive battle. However, Texas was able to put a lot of pressure on us and force some mistakes. Texas pulled away and Alabama ran out of gas late. Alabama 41, UTA 61.
This was the first college weekend of the season. Alabama entered the weekend knowing that they were in for an absolute battle in every game. Going 3-1 overall against such stellar college competition gives the team a lot of confidence moving on with the remainder of the season. The men are as humble and hungry as ever leaving this tournament. Bama will get back to the grind and continue to improve. The men and women will play this coming Saturday in Birmingham. Roll Tide!
